Managed Bonfires and Site Entrance Clear up

Managed Bonfires

As mentioned in a previous Special Bulletin (See below), WTC has given us permission to hold Managed Bonfires outside the normal post-4pm restrictions. This allows tenants to dispose of wood rubbish on their plots who may not want to have individual plot bonfires during the darkening hours of autumn and winter.

With that in mind, we have chosen Wednesday, 12th November at 10:30am as the date for the first Managed Bonfire.

From today (30th October), tenants may deposit wood only (e.g., loose branches, old/broken pallets, old timber) at the designated collection point near the back gate, marked by red-topped stakes — see below image. Please do not deposit any other materials besides wood.

Site Entrance Clean-Up

As also mentioned recently, a working party will be formed to clean up the gate and noticeboard area. The Committee has chosen the weekend of Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th November for this task and is asking for volunteers to come along and help.

The work will include:

  • Strimming
  • Removal of undergrowth and brambles
  • Topping off some bushes

The aim is to create a clean, flat area around the noticeboard and nearby space, where we can lay weed-suppressant material, cover it with gravel or stones, and add raised beds for flowers and shrubs.

If you can help, please reply to this email, and we’ll add you to the list of volunteers. We plan to meet inside the main gate at 10:30am on Saturday, 15th November. If extra time is needed, we’ll return the following day.

Many thanks &
Kind regards

Managed Bonfires and Rubble Disposal

As you will be aware from previous posts, the Committee has been working with WTC on various actions that will assist plot tenants in dealing with the removal of various types of rubbish from their plots (one being the yearly skips that we have on site in the Spring).

With that in mind, please see below an important Special Bulletin that outlines two new schemes that will begin to help with the clearing up of unused Wood and Rubble from tenants’ allotment plots. Simply click on the image below to view the full Special Bulletin.

The Committee expects to make further announcements about other types of rubbish disposal schemes soon. If you have any questions about this Special Bulletin, please contact the Committee by replying to this post or via readingroadplots@woodley-allotments.org.uk.

Many thanks &
Kind regards

Multiple Items plus a summary of our last Committee Meeting

No more Bonfires on the Plots – Please don’t forget that the ability to have a bonfire on your plot ended on April 30th. No more Bonfires until October 1st, 2025.

Trees on the Allotment Site – Until further notice, please do not cut down any tress on your plot or anywhere else on the Allotment Site. The Committee in conjunction with Woodley Town Council (WTC) will be carrying out an audit of all the trees on the Allotment Site.

Use of Hose Pipes – There have several of reports of tenants using hoses to obtain water from water tanks for their plots. Paragraph 4.18 of the current Tenancy Agreement prohibits this activity; offenders could have their Tenancy terminated.

Summary of Associations Committee meeting – 14th April 2025 – The new Committee have decided that all Tenants should be aware of the various discussions that the Committee is having and as with the recent WATA/WTC meeting, we will be publishing these as soon as we can after our meetings. This one is a bit late due to some logistic and IT (now resolved) issues. You can download a PDF copy if you require by simply clicking on the image below.

If you have any questions about the subjects of either the Committee or the WATA/WTC meetings, then please let us know by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post – ‘Leave a Reply‘- or by emailing readingroadplots@woodley-allotments.org.uk and we will get back to you with a response.

Finally, we continue to build up our revised Mailing List, if you have not already joined it, you can opt-in here.
